About
Tijani Osumah, M.D., is a fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon and board-certified general surgeon, specializing in robotic and minimally-invasive surgical techniques, at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.
As a medical student, he was inspired to pursue surgery due to his interest in surgical technology. Prior to medical school, Dr. Osumah was a trained biomedical engineer. This experience offered him a niche perspective and greater appreciation of the unique impact of medical technology in surgical fields.
Dr. Osumah's interest in colorectal surgery began during medical school. He noted that the incidence of colon cancer continues to rise, especially among young people and people of color. Contributing to the efforts to lower the mortality of colon cancer is what fueled his interest in colorectal surgery.
Dr. Osumah inspires a safe, welcoming environment where patients are comfortable discussing any colorectal issues they may have. He notes people are often not the most forthcoming with anorectal conditions, either due to feelings of embarrassment or shame. He takes pride in listening intently to patients and works to ensure that his care plans are tailored to meet each patient’s specific needs.
Dr. Osumah graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington. He also received his master’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in a joint program with UT Southwestern Medical Center. He obtained his M.D. at Ross University School of Medicine, graduating with high honors. Dr. Osumah completed his surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Horizon campus, in Farrell, Pennsylvania. He completed his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan.
Dr. Osumah’s hobbies include traveling, cooking, reading, spending time with family, gaming, exploring local and exotic cuisine, visiting museums and art appreciation.
